On October 6, Google began rolling out the October 2026 Android 17 security patch to Pixel 6 and newer devices. 9to5Google reported the release for builds CP3A.261005.002.A1 on Pixel 6, Pixel 6 Pro, Pixel 6a, Pixel 7, Pixel 7 Pro, Pixel 7a, Pixel Tablet, and Pixel Fold; CP3A.261005.005 on Pixel 8, Pixel 9, and Pixel 10 series; and CD1A.261005.003 on Pixel 11 series. Android Authority also confirmed the rollout on October 6 and noted Google will phase it over the following week.
Google’s changelog for the October release lists three fixes. Pixel 8 through Pixel 11 models receive a correction for a bug where the on-screen keyboard sometimes does not appear when tapping search input fields. Pixel 8 through Pixel 10 models get a patch for intermittent ringtone noise or distortion during some VoIP calls. Pixel 11 models get a sensor correction for photos or videos occasionally being saved in the wrong orientation. Android Authority notes none of the listed changes directly target Pixel 6 or Pixel 7 models. The changelog does not mention new features such as 3D emojis or other visual additions.
Android Authority says the October patch is likely the final one Google will distribute for the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro. Google launched those phones on October 19, 2021, and later lengthened their update coverage to five years. SecNews reports Google lists October 2026 as the Pixel 6 Pro's final support month, with Android 17 as the last OS version. TechCabal adds that Google skipped Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro in the August 2026 security patch, and those models are not scheduled to get Android 17 QPR2. Their support window closes in October 2026; the Pixel 6a continues getting updates until July 2027.
The path to this point began on June 16, 2026, when Google rolled out Android 17 to every Pixel from the Pixel 6 onward, alongside the June Pixel Drop. In August 2026, the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro were skipped in Google's security patch. In September, some Pixel owners reported that the September 2026 update locked them out of their phones; reports mentioned the Pixel 10 Pro XL, Pixel 8a, and Pixel 8 Pro, and TechSpot said Google had not publicly confirmed the problem or announced a fix. The October update then arrived on schedule, bringing only bug fixes.
Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro owners who install the October patch will not receive further monthly security updates from Google unless the company changes course. SecNews warns that after October 2026, Google will not fix new Android zero-day vulnerabilities on those phones, and banking or work apps may eventually stop running on devices without current security patches. Android Authority says November’s update would arrive after the cutoff. For now, the October release is available, and Google says it will arrive gradually over the coming week.
