As of October 12, the OnePlus 16 is official in China only, with no announced launch for North America or Europe. The phone starts at 5,699 Chinese yuan, about $850, and goes on sale in China after a pre-order period.
OnePlus announced in July 2026 that it would stop selling phones in North America and Europe. That decision ended a decade of selling flagship phones in those regions. Before the exit, the OnePlus 15 launched in the US at $899.99, undercutting $1,200–$1,300 flagships from Samsung, Google, and Apple. Digital Trends reported that the OnePlus 16 would launch in China and stay there, and it would use the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 chip.
APAC Media reported on September 28 that OnePlus confirmed an October 12 launch date in China. The Mac Observer and Beebom Gadgets also reported the date. The official OnePlus Weibo account confirmed the date and time: October 12 at 17:00 CST. Li Jie Louis, president of OnePlus China, announced the date at the OnePlus Gaming Conference 2026. The Mac Observer called the chip the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro, while Beebom Gadgets and PetaPixel used the name Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6. Pre-orders opened through the Oppo e-store, with open sales starting October 13. The phone was also put on display at Oppo stores.
On October 12, OnePlus unveiled the OnePlus 16 with a 6.78-inch OLED screen, a 9,000mAh battery, and the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 chip. The display has a 185Hz refresh rate, and the phone supports gaming at up to 185fps in selected games. The rear camera system has a 200-megapixel main camera with a Type 1/1.4 sensor and a 23mm equivalent f/1.6 lens, a 50-megapixel telephoto with a Type 1/1.95 sensor and 73mm equivalent f/2.6 lens, and a 50-megapixel 116-degree ultrawide camera. The selfie camera is also 50 megapixels. The main camera supports an Expert mode with film-like colors and a Hasselblad-inspired aspect ratio.
The phone supports gaming at up to 185fps in selected games, including Peace Elite, Arena Breakout, Nizhan: Future, and Naruto Mobile. OnePlus said a new Fengchi Gaming Kernel manages the CPU, GPU, and memory during games, and a self-developed tri-chip setup handles touch, display, and network tasks. The tri-chip setup includes the T3 Touch Chip, P4 Super Display Chip, and G3 e-sports Network Chip. The Weibo announcement said the phone is “among the first to feature the 6th generation Snapdragon 8 Super Edition, paired with a new generation of gaming kernel, pre-programmed into the chip for maximum performance!”.
The OnePlus 16 comes in three colors: Tomorrow’s Starlight, Dark Forest, and Martian Masterpiece. It also has built-in lights that show galactic coordinates and alert users to incoming calls and messages.
OnePlus has not announced the OnePlus 16 for India. Reports suggest the company may skip the standard OnePlus 16 in India and instead offer the OnePlus 16R as its top model there. The Mac Observer reported that Western buyers will miss out entirely, and Indian availability remains a mystery. For now, the device is exclusive to China.
