Nest DST fix

Google to fix Nest devices after daylight saving time bug in Canada

The company says a small subset of devices in provinces that no longer observe daylight saving time may show the wrong hour, causing late alarms and disturbed schedules.

Google is preparing a fix for some Nest Hub and Nest Thermostat devices that failed to adjust after daylight saving time ended in parts of Canada, 9to5Google reported on Wednesday. Owners wrote on Reddit this week that their devices were an hour off, which caused alarms to fire late, automations to run at the wrong time, and schedules to shift. The problem appears limited to certain provinces where daylight saving time is no longer observed while neighbouring areas still change clocks.

Google confirmed the issue to Android Authority and said a patch is in the works. In a statement, the company said: "Google is aware of an issue affecting a small subset of devices in some provinces in Canada where daylight savings is no longer observed. We apologize for any inconvenience and are actively working on a fix." Google also replied to affected users on Reddit that a fix was coming, but as of November 4 the update was not yet available.

The issue follows Google's earlier guidance for Android phones in Canada after some provinces dropped the time change. On Nest hardware, users do not have the same easy time zone adjustment, making the bug more disruptive.
