At its “Pro and tell” event on Wednesday, Apple introduced the MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display, its first touchscreen Mac laptop. The 14-inch model starts at $2,899 and the 16-inch at $3,399, with preorders open today and availability beginning November 6, according to Apple.

Apple says the PROLED XDR panel uses tandem OLED technology and reaches up to 2,000 nits of peak brightness, with a 10,000,000:1 contrast ratio and a 120Hz variable refresh rate. It also covers both P3 and Adobe RGB color gamuts. The Verge notes the webcam sits in a hole-punch cutout rather than a notch. Engadget reports slimmer bezels let Apple fit 14.2-inch and 16.3-inch screens.

Touch is the headline addition. Apple says macOS automatically translates touches into clicks, so many existing apps respond to touch without changes, and apps like Notion, Canva, PowerPoint and Blender will work with the touchscreen natively. The Dynamic Island moves to the Mac, housing Spotlight, Live Activities and Siri AI.

The laptop runs on Apple’s M5 Pro or M5 Max chips and can be configured with up to 128GB of unified memory and 16TB of storage. Apple claims up to 24 hours of battery life, based on testing in September 2026, and says the 14-inch model weighs as little as 3 pounds while the 16-inch weighs 4 pounds. Engadget notes the current non-touch 14-inch MacBook Pro weighs 3.4 pounds and the 16-inch weighs between 4.7 and 4.8 pounds. The rear Apple logo lights up, a return to older designs.

Ports include three Thunderbolt 5 USB-C connections, MagSafe, HDMI, an SDXC card slot and a headphone jack. Apple also lists a six-speaker sound system with 50 percent deeper bass, a 12MP Center Stage camera, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, Touch ID and fast charging to 50 percent in 30 minutes.

M5 Max configurations start at $4,499 for the 14-inch and $4,799 for the 16-inch. Engadget reports that a fully configured 16-inch model with an M5 Max chip, 128GB of memory and 16TB of storage costs $14,549, and says the $2,899 starting price is the highest launch price it has seen for a MacBook Pro.
